These basic characteristics are: width spacing, inward spiralling, life-time, and movement of the bands. Movement of individual cells in the bands is also reviewed. The changes of meteorological variables within the bands are examined, as well as the surface changes in weather elements observed during the passage of the rainbands. The formation of tornadoes within hurricanes is briefly discussed. Finally, the explanations for band formation are treated in a succinct fashion: explanations inferred from observations, from laboratory experiments, and from the results of analytical and numerical studies.enOrganization and Motion of the Spiral Rainbands in Hurricanes: A ReviewArticle
